Henning Mankell's A Bridge to the Stars set for Fall 2005
Posted 2005-05-10
Henning Mankell's A Bridge To The StarsAndersen Press is set to publish A Bridge to the Stars, one of Henning Mankell's many children's books, into English this year. The book is one in a four part series about a boy named Joel.

Here is a synopsis from

12 year old Joel lives with his father in the cold northern part of Sweden. At night he often sneaks out of his father's house to look for a lonely dog he has seen from his window. On the bridge across the icy river he starts a secret society and has adventures. But one night he discovers that his father's bed is also empty and will have to come terms with his fathers new found love. The harsh reality of Joel's world comes vividly to life and leaves the reader spellbound.

The original Swedish title is Hunden som sprang mot en stjärna but it's not clear when it was first published. The other three books in the series are Skuggorna växer i skymningen, Pojken som sov med snö i sin säng and Resan till världens ände.

The only information currently available in English are the listings in the Amazon and Random House catalogs:
